The new Macula Plus formulation in softgels combines all the ingredients necessary for optimal eye nutrition and protection while offering enhanced absorption, stability, and bioavailability. Optimal vision is an essential element of good health at any age. The macula, located behind the lens, enables detailed vision and color differentiation.
Why Opt for Macula Plus?
Lutein, zeaxanthin, and its stereo-isomer, mesozeaxanthin, principally make up the pigment that covers the macular area of the eye. These three antioxidant carotenoids, present in equal amounts in the center of the retina, filter blue light and protect the photoreceptors from oxidative damage. Macular pigment density varies from one person to another, diminishing as we age, but regular supplementation can help maintain it.
Lutein is part of the xanthophyll family of pigments. Modern diets rarely provide more than 2 mg a day, although doses 5 to 10 times higher than this are often judged to be necessary. Zeaxanthin and mesozeaxanthin are produced in the retina from lutein but this conversion occurs less frequently with age and thus levels fall. Supplementation curbs this decrease and significantly increases macular pigment density.
What are the Benefits Associated with Macula Plus?
This new formulation, based on the latest scientific research, ensures optimal nutrition for the macula and maintains long-term healthy vision:
- Levels of lutein, zeaxanthin, and mesozeaxanthin are lower in the eyes of individuals with age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
- Astaxanthin, a powerful antioxidant carotenoid, relieves eye strain (caused by computer screens, artificial lighting…). It also boosts antioxidant defenses and offers additional protection against inflammatory changes that can aggravate AMD.
- Supplementation boosts macular pigment density and improves the mechanisms of vision to a level consistent with that of early stage macular degeneration and increases eye protection against oxidative damage.
- Supplementation with lutein and zeaxanthin protects against the development and progression of cataracts.
- Macula Plus has been improved by the addition of cyanidin-3-glucoside (C3G) and astaxanthin. C3G (cyanidin-3-glucoside) is a purple anthocyanin with exceptional antioxidant potency: it protects the eyes against free radical attack. It also enhances night vision by facilitating the regeneration of rhodopsin, an essential pigment present in the eyes' photoreceptor cells.
