Magnesium Combo Supplement Benefits

Magnesium is essential for all living organisms. It is the fourth most important mineral in the body and is involved in over 300 enzymatic reactions. It is specifically involved in the following bodily functions:

  • Necessary for muscle relaxation and for nerves to function properly;
  • Helps regulate heart rate;
  • Supports the immune system;
  • Promotes healthy bones;
  • Helps regulate blood sugar;
  • Helps regulate blood pressure;
  • Participates in protein synthesis and energy metabolism by supporting the production of ATP, the body's main energy molecule produced during the Krebs cycle;
  • Plays a role in the synthesis and control of neurotransmitter activity, particularly noradrenalin, by enabling the latter to be stored in nerve cells.

How does Low Magnesium Affect the Body?

Nutritional supplements contain magnesium in a number of forms, but they are not all optimally absorbed by the body and some of them can cause intestinal discomfort.

It is estimated that over 75% of the population is failing to consume the recommended amount of magnesium, even without considering its over-use by the body as a result of stress. Low in magnesium, the refined foods of modern diets make it the most common micro-nutritional deficiency.

Other factors may exacerbate a lack of magnesium, including age, daily over-exposure to noise, prescribed drugs, the effects of some diseases – e.g. diabetes, digestive diseases, and kidney diseases – as well as eating too many fatty foods and consuming too much alcohol.

Lastly, any kind of stress, whether acute or chronic, initiates a significant release of adrenalin, which produces more severe muscle contractions when a magnesium deficiency is present. This leads to magnesium being flushed from muscle cells to the blood, where it is lost through urine. And since magnesium deficiencies may increase vulnerability to stress, the result can be a vicious circle.

Furthermore, it is very difficult to tell from a blood test alone whether or not an individual is magnesium deficient since serum level reflects the amount of extracellular rather than intracellular magnesium.

Signs of magnesium deficiency may include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, fatigue, weakness, muscle tension, irritability, insomnia, headaches, dizziness, anxiety, emotional outbursts, feeling like you have a lump in the throat or stomach, and heart palpitations.

More severe deficiencies can lead to muscle spasms, contractions and cramps, and problems with mood and heart rate. If you are magnesium deficient, you may benefit from supplementation. However, note that restoring normal levels of magnesium may require six weeks to six months of supplementation.

OptiMag Magnesium Complex Supplement Ingredients

Overall, the eight forms of magnesium in OptiMag magnesium complex capsules have the benefit of being non-irritating and tolerated by those with a sensitive stomach, unlike the hydroxide and oxide forms (such as marine magnesium), which can cause digestive irritation and a laxative effect in the long term.

Below are the eight forms used in OptiMag.

Magnesium citrate

Magnesium citrate is commonly found in all the best magnesium blend supplements. Including magnesium citrate in a magnesium blend supplement can help increase the amount of water stored in the intestines, which helps promote regular bowel movements and avoid constipation. Studies have also shown it helps reduce arterial stiffness in healthy overweight participants.

Magnesium malate

This form of magnesium is created by combining malic acid with magnesium. You might know the term malic acid because it is responsible for the tart flavor found in fruit. Studies also indicate that magnesium malate is one of the most bioavailable forms, which is why we use it in our magnesium supplement.

Magnesium bisglycinate

Most magnesium supplements contain magnesium glycinate for its potential benefits on mental health. Plus, this compound provides perfect stability and causes no known negative effects on intestinal walls.

Magnesium aspartate

Found in many food products, research indicates that magnesium aspartate may provide cardiovascular protection. This study shows just one of the many possible benefits of taking magnesium supplements.

Magnesium pidolate

This magnesium blend is a mixture containing the magnesium salt of pidolic acid. This particular form of magnesium has been studied for its effects on cell health.

Magnesium glycerophosphate

This fat-soluble magnesium salt has been linked in research to heart rate regulation. It is common for researchers to study magnesium supplements for blood pressure regulation. In fact, even with no cardiovascular issues, it makes sense to take an all-in-one magnesium supplement for heart health.

Magnesium taurinate

This vital form of magnesium is used in our magnesium blend supplement because it facilitates the re-entry of magnesium into cells just as it is being flushed out – as a result of stress, for example. In fact, studies show that this form could help maintain proper blood sugar levels.

Magnesium arginate

This magnesium is combined with the amino acid L-arginine, recognized for its vasodilatory effects. It could also be beneficial for stomach issues, as determined by research on reflux conditions.

Magnesium Combo Supplement Side Effects

Whether you are taking a magnesium supplement as a muscle relaxant or a magnesium supplement for bone health, you need to know what to expect. Thankfully, side effects of taking multiple magnesium supplements are minimal, making this a safe magnesium blend supplement for most people.

Before you start taking any good magnesium supplement, it is advised that you perform your own research. If you have any health conditions or take medication, you should also speak with your physician about the effects of magnesium supplements.

Great option to get a variety of Magnesium at once. I use Magnesium Threonate at night, and this during the day. So far so good, as always just make sure you have your levels tested regularly.
