La levure de riz rouge a pour effet de diminuer le taux de cholestérol. Celui-ci étant produit principalement la nuit au niveau du foie, il est recommandé de prendre la levure de riz rouge avant de dormir afin de bénéficier au maximum de ses effets.
La levure de riz rouge : un effet analogue à celui des traitements anti-cholestérol
Plusieurs études ont montré que la monacoline K, tirée de la levure de riz rouge, présente des effets pharmacologiques semblables à ceux des hypolipémiants les plus courants (1). Elle augmente le taux de HDL (ou « bon cholestérol »), diminue le taux de LDL (ou « mauvais cholestérol »), celui du cholestérol total et celui des triglycérides.
Le cholestérol est synthétisé dans l'organisme au niveau du foie pendant la nuit, au moment où l'organisme ne reçoit plus de nourriture (2). Les traitements hypolipémiants agissent en inhibant les étapes précoces de la synthèse du cholestérol, limitant sa libération dans le sang. La levure de riz rouge et ses principes actifs agissent de la même manière, il est donc pertinent de la prendre le soir avant le coucher.
C'est une alternative naturelle qui doit être envisagée sous contrôle médical, comme tout complément alimentaire à visée thérapeutique (3).
